After the insurance inspector and prosecuting agencies used reports of identity fraud to drum up publicity and sensationalism against the defendant on the news, the DA was finally compelled to dismiss the charges in Dougherty County. The facts were shaky and little investigation was actually performed by state agents to test the identity of the actual perpetrators of the crime. Ultimately, the case was sent to the Assistant US attorney for federal review where the case was failed to be picked up for prosecution. This case showed that what you see on the news doesn’t always reflect the whole story and is often backed by a desire to ‘rush to press’ a story that sounds better than it is.
